Sunday 21st of March saw the Glenunga Comets host the Payneham Dukes in the Under 12 Division 1 grand finale. On a glorious morning for cricket an undefeated Comets side won the toss and elected to bat. The opening pair of Archah Parisi and Max Anderson got away to a dashing start with 15 & 9 respectively but ended at 2/27 needing to steady our innings. Taj Panelli and Max Black batted with great poise, accumulating 8 & 20 respectively to have the side working toward a reasonable total. A few quick wickets had us now 6 /76. The final 8 overs saw Jack Nelson 9 not out, combined with Harvey Potter also 9 not out and Ben Ryan 13 in a smart display of gritty cricket to have the side finish all out for 98 in the 28th over. This was our lowest score for the season and the boys were worried!

A rousing change of innings speech had the lads focused on team, enjoying the moment and continuing to keep doing what we had done all year. This had them burst from the changerooms ready to apply some pressure of their own to the match.

Archah opened the bowling with Max Anderson. Max’s 3rd ball had the first opening batter caught at mid-wicket magnificently by Taj Panelli, 1/3. The following ball Payneham”s first drop is bowled for a golden duck, 2/3 and on a hattrick. Archah’s following over has the other opener out LBW 3/4. Max’s second over has Payneham”s most dangerous batter on strike and in the clutch moment of the match he belts a drive to mid off where Harrison Fletcher take a spectacular chest mark and Payneham is reeling at 4/6. Taj continued the pressure clean bowling the Number 5, now 5/8. Benny Ryan chipped in bowling Number 6 batter. 6 wickets down for 11 runs. Great pressure and super skills in the field saw the Number 7 run out, Taj into Max Black who had the best day with the gloves all season. Payneham are now 7/18. Harvey Potter kept on the pressure bowling very well and Jack Nelson picked up the last wicket clean bowled also. Payneham all out for 22 in the 12th over. Zac Faraonio and Harrison Chandler both fielded with great spirit but didn’t get a chance to bowl on the day, well done lads. A special mention to Abraham Peter who broke his finger through the week but provided great support from “The Cauldron” All the players played sensationally well, a great team effort by all.
